Product Details

There are various ways to control an actuator.  It can be done with a simple switch or a computerized control system.   In this section, various methods are covered.
Including:
  • PLC
  • Synchronization
  • CAN bus

PLC

Some of our actuators are designed to be more easily used with PLCs. The following video explains what is meant by Low level or low current switching which is a feature that allows the actuator to be used more easily with a PLC.

PLC compatible or low level switching

Synchronization

Synchronization of multiple actuators is possible.

Advantages of Synchronizing Actuators and Application Examples

The Electrak HD actuator position-based synchronization option features:
  • Unlimited synchronization with proper voltage (+/- 10%V) and mechanical alignment
  • Capable of handling offset, unbalanced, and shared loads
  • If a unit detects that it is 1mm further ahead of any other in the network, it will reduce its speed slightly to allow the other to catch up
    • If the positional difference between any actuators becomes too great and exceeds the max distance error value specified, the most ahead unit will stop until the furthest unit catches up
  • All units must use the same configured part number in the synchronized system
  • Operation with a simple switch - no external controls required

CAN bus

Utilizing CAN bus can provide enhanced control of the actuator. Some advantages of CAN bus include:
  • Providing the ability to move actuator using more complex motion control.
  • Internal motion controller to manipulate speed, current and position.
  • Design flexibility – the same actuator can be used in many applications.
  • Additional on-board sensors for field diagnostics.
  • Fewer wires, no external control boxes, quick connection to existing networks.
Our CAN bus control option is J1939 CAN bus compatible. SAE J1939 CAN bus is a typical communication bus used in off-highway equipment, heavy truck industry and some automotive applications.
