06/10/2009 | Free One Hour Educational Webinar from Thomson - Ball Screws 301: A Practical Approach to Ball Screw Integration

WOOD DALE, IL – On October 14, 2009, Thomson is presenting a free, live educational webinar:

Ball Screws 301: A Practical Approach to Integration.

The latest in a series of regular webinars on the application of mechanical and electromechanical linear motion technology from Thomson, Ball Screws 301 is designed for mechanical motion design engineers at all experience levels who are interested in learning more about appropriately integrating ball screws on single or multi-axis machines. The seminar will deliver solid, practical information - not a sales pitch – on how to design and build better machines with ball screw technology.  Two sessions are available:

Session A - 10:00 a.m. E.S.T. / 9:00 a.m. C.S.T. / 7:00 a.m. P.S.T
Session B - 3:00 p.m. E.S.T. / 2:00 p.m. C.S.T. / 12:00 noon P.S.T.
Registration is required

In one hour, participants will walk through:

1) Introduction
a. Why a ball screw?
b. Typical applications
c. Design tree
- Basic parameters
- Application requirements
- Optional features
- Design calculations

2) Design Application – XYZ Coordinate Machine
a.  Size and select components based on common parameters using the design tree
b.  X-Axis
- Horizontal loading: acceleration / deceleration, linear rail / profile rail selection
- High load
- Low Speed
c.  Y-Axis
- Vertical loading: G-forces, brakes, safety - load lock
- Low speed
d. Z-Axis
- High speed
- Low load
- High accuracy

3) Available design tools and calculations

For persons who are interested but unable to attend, this webinar will be archived for on-demand viewing.
