How can one use a single motor to drive two axes at the same time?

Belt driven slides are very simple to run in parallel with a single motor and just requires connecting them with an idler shaft, and mounting the motor outboard of the pair of slides. Screw driven slides require a series of right angle gearheads and a dual shaft gearhead to mechanically link the slides. Many customers take advantage of the reliability of modern servo motors and drives, and use independent motors with electronic gearing through the drives to reduce mechanical complexity.
