08/04/2013 | Thomson upgrades linear bearing capabilities in Europe

WOLFSCHLUGEN, GERMANY -  Linear motion specialist Thomson has upgraded its Cut Centre in Wolfschlugen, Germany to provide dedicated local rail customisation and improved service for its linear bearing and guide product lines in Europe.

The investment is in response to increasing demand for its award-winning 400 Series profile rails, that are shipped to Germany in standard 4m lengths for extended joint-free motion. These are then cut to length, matched and assembled to customer’s mechanical and lubrication specifications in Wolfschlugen.

Jonathan Wray, Product Manager Linear Bearings & Guides explained: “Demand had outstripped our local capability to customise products and deliver the high quality components that Thomson is known for. Investing in world-class wet-cutting equipment in Wolfschlugen and developing local hard chrome plating capabilities is the first part of an ongoing programme to ensure high quality, good service and improved delivery in Germany and throughout Europe.”

The new Cut Centre incorporates high tolerance machining capabilities, finishing and etching equipment dedicated to the customisation and assembly of linear bearing rails to customer’s specifications. Part availability has been further addressed with the introduction of new Kanban-controlled inventories for 400 Series and round linear bearings to provide better in-stock availability for customers supplied from the German facility.
