Smart Actuators Bring Big Benefits to Utility and Other Off-Highway Vehicles

Industrial utility and other off-highway vehicle OEMs are adding automated or improved manual control of many vehicle features and functions in order to improve performance, safety, ergonomics and cost.

There are many potential applications on nearly every type of utility and off-highway vehicle to combine onboard computers with smart actuators to deliver unique functionality that can set an OEM's product apart from its competitors.

What is needed to control a linear actuator?

SOLUTION: Thomson AC and DC actuators can be controlled from a double pole double throw (DPDT) switch.

Note, though, that AC actuators require a constant run/start capacitor. Check the actuator itself to determine if this capacitor is mounted internally, or if a separate external capacitor kit is needed.

Products in Motion

Sometimes seeing products in action can help you visualize how a given solution could help differentiate your next machine.

Whether its shafting and supports, round and square rail guides, linear motion systems and slide tables, ball and lead screws or linear bearings and pillow blocks, Thomson products are an ideal motion solution in a wide array of industrial applications.

Watch our new video, Products in Action (1 min.), to see these Thomson solutions in action and get a glimpse of how they can help optimize machine performance.
