What does the clutch do?

The clutch, commonly called an overload clutch, is a load-limiting device in the actuator that interfaces the gearbox and the screw assembly of the linear actuator (the rod or piston).  This, when subjected to a certain load (typically 20-25% higher than the rated dynamic load) will ratchet or slip, preventing the actuator from damaging itself due to overload.
